Wurstfest Regatta is an event everyone should experience at least once (or as often as possible).  Lake Canyon Yacht Club puts on two sensational Wurstfest regattas each year.  The first is for centerboard boats and the second is for keel boats.

As you know, our Butterfly Fleet races will not happen this Saturday so that we can participate as a fleet in the State Fair Regatta sponsored by the Corinthian Sailing Club.

Brad was the lone Butterfly entrant in the White Rock Lake Championships.  His pictures are entertaining.  A Scot with a red and white spinnaker bearing down on him which eventually passed him and then in another shot later on, the same Scot capsized and Brad sailing away.  Victory!

With all the record heat and triple digits we’ve been having, it’s hard to say it was a beautiful day … but it was.  Sun, good wind, good competition and three solid races with lots of opportunities to learn rules, tactics and shifts.

This time of year brings new faces to the lake and days like Saturday bode well for the future of the Butterfly fleet.

Tom had a guest, Jackie, sailing his boat. Jackie sailed many years ago and used to teach sailing. We had good wind and she handled the boat well and said it was like riding a bike and had the best time ever. Hopefully, we’ll see her again.

I'd been watching the wind alert report and it had been indicating fairly light winds but they were to pick up a little after 12 pm and then more after 3 pm. That turned out to be pretty accurate with most of the wind between 3-8 mph during the duration of our racing.

Saturday dawned with the usual weather pattern of late. Beautiful, windy, and not a cloud in the sky. The tops of the trees waved frantically from dawn to dusk and sometimes all night long. Skipper's meeting was at 9:45 and I listened closely but still found myself confused when actual sailing began.

after learning that White Rock was closing traffic for a half marathon.  Then we arrived at White Rock Boat Club where they are beginning construction to install bathrooms so getting to the boats
