Journal Entry for March 1, 2008

By Pam
Hello Butterflyers,

A big thank you goes to Shaun Hoffmann for setting up our website. The site works a little differently than a regular website because it's a blog. This means that the maintenance of the site doesn't fall upon just one person and we can all be given access and make posts and upload pictures or simply make comments to the posts of others.

We haven't utilized the blog portion yet and it's an excellent opportunity to keep everyone up to date on the happenings in the fleet. So, to start off the blogging, here is a quick recap of the last few months if you haven't been around.

WRBC clubhouse ... gone ... pack a cooler when you come ... we have lunch in the breezeway by the tack rooms now. Port-a-potty ... well used during construction ... pack your own toilet paper just in case. East dock ... March 15 is the go day for rebuilding ... check with Bruce for details ... check with Frank for CSC dock work on the 15th. Butterflyer of the Year ... Burton Shepherd ... congratulations! New fleet members this year ... Laurie Berger, Megan Doren, Shaun Hoffmann, Bowman O'Connor, Mike Seay. Laser sailors wintering on the Butterfly ... Mike Rist, Mark Babb, Arren Conner, Bo Hoag ... pure entertainment. Swimmers ... too many to mention but Megan and Tom were the only ones that opted for a swim when the committee boat wouldn't start ... Tom was eventually retrieved by the committee boat ... Megan was rescued by sailboat and suffered from Tourettes Syndrome for the remainder of the day. Committee boat ... we're using CSC's boats for now. 2008 Boat Show ... we contributed a poster and brochures to the CSC booth ... extra brochures available at WRBC. CSC's newsletter ... Megan reported Butterfly Fleet news ... check it out on CSC's website. Racing ... we've been having fun ... come join us. I'm sure I missed some things so feel free to add comments.

Okay, regular blogging begins but I'll keep it short ...

3-1-08 - Saturday started out kind of cold with little wind and a fog that was so dense CSC wasn't visible. Tom Charland, serving on committee duty for the second week in a row, insisted that we were starting on time. Seeing the wind building, the WRBC crowd bundled up and headed for the line. The CSC crowd all arrived on the line wearing SHORTS. Clearly, we had different weather on the two docks. We had 7 to 9 boats come out, the sun was shining, it warmed up, and the wind built steadily all day and it turned into a perfect day of racing. Laurie Berger joined us for the first time in a while and did very well. It was good to see her out again. Lunch was campfire style in the breezeway at WRBC (with a roof over our heads, Burton). After the races, a few of us at WRBC did a side by side comparison of two new sails, the new Quantum sail vs. a new old style sail. I'll let the more experienced sailors comment on the differences. Thank you Jackie for serving duty and a huge thank you to Tom for filling in last weekend and also serving today. What a great day of racing!!!
