Another Great Day on the Water

By Pam
Plenty of sunshine, a slight chill in the air, darn fine wind, 11 boats on the line and a boat load of girls on the committee boat with Gary. A mighty fine day.

Gary decided to take WRBC's rescue boat out for a spin and blow out the gunk. There was a delay in hitting the water because the key was locked up safely and no one could remember the combination. Once we cracked the combo, there was no stopping Gary from making that boat sing (after a bit of coughing and smoking). He then had plenty of company with Amber, Catherine R. and Marsha rotating in and out doing duty.

We seemed to be on lake time at WRBC so most of us were late in getting to the line and a few missed the start entirely. Bruce was playing Where's Waldo again and ended up on Miles' boat doing some tweaking. All I know is that I rounded a mark and soon had Bruce's boat trying to enter the cockpit of my boat and neither Miles or I could convince her she didn't belong there. Lynn came out to sail for the first time in about a year and despite claiming he might need help rigging his boat, he did quite well. I understand Megan came out to sail after most of us had left the docks but when she put her boat in the water, it rolled over and played dead. Marsha brought cookies for everyone on the WRBC dock and, it being Valentine's Day, Doug brought flowers for all the girls on the dock.

As for the sailing, we got in 3 races with some good competition and no rescues were required. Gary ran a few starting drills after the break, before the 3rd race. In the future, we will probably run starting drills between the 1st and 2nd race and one of the starts (no one knows which) will be the start of the real race. The drills were good practice with most people over early but it was a good opportunity to try a new approach and see if it works.

Sorry ... no pictures this week ... forgot the camera.
