A new Wisconsin-based company, founded by two active Butterfly people, has completed acquiring all of the Butterfly parts business from the old builders, Hedlund Marine. Long-time Butterflyer Jim Young has teamed up with relative newcomer Joe Terry to create the new company, to ensure that Butterfly parts and pieces can continue to flow into the hands of sailors.
The new company does not intend to sell direct, but through the dealer network. They will be maintaining an online web site that will be a reasource for dealers, including current stock levels of all parts including sails and current retail prices. The goal of the company is to be able to ship dealer orders for in-stock items within 24 hours, so that sailors needing parts can get them quickly. The combination of web site stock status and fast shipping means that dealers should be able to give virtually immediate answers to sailors on questions about parts orders.
Both Jim and Joe agree that their intention is to see to it that boats that need parts keep sailing, and that the parts and pieces continue the one-design tradition of the class.
