Racing? Not quite. We had a decent number of people show up but the sun didn’t put in an appearance until later in the day and somehow that meant only a couple of people were seriously even considering sailing. It was a bit on the cold side and the weather forecast was for that North wind to come howling through about the time we’d hit the water. Racing just wasn’t meant to be.
Instead of sailing, it turned out to be an information exchange day. Sandy found an interesting phenomenon among his collection of rudders from various old and new boats. It seems the older Butterfly rudders are identical to the newer rudders except that they are about an inch longer. Interesting. I have an old rudder. I’ll have to see how mine measures up.
Doug had been having withdrawals from playing with his magnetic boats so he brought those out for a little quizzing and coaching. The older hands were relatively unchallenged but some of us still continue to benefit from the exercise of slowing things down and spending a little time thinking about various variables.
Keep an eye out in the right margin for videos I’ll be adding soon. I’ve been meaning to put up the video for the 1973 Nationals for some time now and I’ve almost gotten around to doing it. It looks like I’ll have to put it up as a Part 1 and 2. If anyone has any idea who made the video, please share it.
