In going through the tedious process of trying to lift pictures off the videos we take, I often amuse myself by stringing pictures together and making up stories to go along with the pictures. I have an active imagination.

In this series of pictures Sandy was saying the lesson for the day is 'don't hit the leeward mark and have to do circles' which cost him a first place; Cathy was laughing joyfully as she was called over early but succeeding in blocking the committee boat's view thereby getting a general recall with Doug having to toss a perfect start; and Catherine doing a simple debrief with Doug. My made up story was so much more exciting.

So, I looked at the forecast in the morning and had to decide between sailing or finishing a good book. I chose the book. Doug returned with videos from the day that he took as he sailed around the course and after viewing the videos, I believe I made the smarter choice.

There was a decent turnout of Butterflys and Lasers but it was a hot as hell with little wind to speak of and what little wind there was shifting constantly and the courses ended up being all types of backwards. I was originally going to upload Doug's videos but upon listening more carefully decided his observations were fairly blunt and weren't always flattering. Better to keep those in the private learning collection. Everyone seemed to have a good time and be in good spirits in the videos though. You're better sailors than me.

One interesting note that Doug came back with had to do with the Lasers. We've had some mumblings about whether the Lasers should be sharing our course since there seemed to be some instances of interference going on. Doug, being an experienced Laser sailor, noted that the rig set up of most of the Lasers on the course indicates they are fairly inexperienced. One incident where a Laser was getting ready to roll Frank and Doug prompted Doug to ask the Laser to please keep clear and the sailor immediately tried to do just that but went way high and Doug politely told him that keeping clear usually meant going low and the sailor happily complied. The point of the story being that many of the Lasers that sail with us are trying to keep clear but their inexperience is such that they're not quite sure how to do that so a little friendly conversation would go a long way.
