2013 Butterflyer of the Year
A very icy metroplex in December delayed the annual Butterfly Christmas party until January (this past Friday). The series winners for 2013 are ...

Winter Series (12/12 - 2/13):  Frank, Bruce, Sandy / Cathy
Spring Series (3/13 - 5/13):  Paul, Burton, Bruce / Cathy
Summer Series (6/13 - 8/13):  Bruce, Burton, Paul / Cathy
Fall Series (9/13 - 11/13):  Paul, Burton, Bruce / Cathy

Butterflyer of the Year:  Burton

Clearly, Cathy was the Top Woman Butterflyer of the Year but we don't give out a trophy for that. Nevertheless, well done! But watch out girl, I plan to be back to give you a run for your money this year.

Congratulations to all!!

The new officers for 2014 are:

Fleet Captain: Paul
Race Chair: Bowman
Secretary/Treasurer: Bob
Fleet Liaison: Jackie

Thank you to Brad, Bowman and Bob for their work in 2013 and thank you Bowman and Bob for volunteering again for 2014.  Good luck Paul and Jackie in your new roles of leading and liaising in 2014.

So, to start the year off with a little controversy (I'm baa-ack), Doug and I are going to be doing things a little differently this year. I'm an impatient, short-cut, kind of girl.  We are planning to carry waterproof two-way radios with a hands-free headset that will allow us to communicate all the way around the course or even when one is doing duty and the other racing. I want to know (real time) what Doug sees and why he's chosen the left, right or middle and why he just tacked. He's talented enough to broadcast exactly what he is doing while he is doing it and not have it affect his performance too much. And I still want to ask questions all around the course so that I can learn at an accelerated pace.

So either the fleet determines this isn't fair and we don't score our finishes or the fleet embraces this as a new way to sail and buys additional two-way radios and beginners in the fleet boats can tune in and learn and ask questions all around the course or even the experienced sailors could have a little fun exchanging tactics and strategies as they go.  It could be an interesting way to make the entire sailing experience more social and educational. I think the entire fleet would get better as a whole much quicker.  But that's just me ... an outside the box, rock the boat kind of girl.
