I'm only getting cryptic messages and will pass on what I hear. They had two races before lunch. Doug was in first, missed the offset, handing the lead to Jim Young who held it until the finish. Doug came second. Don't know about anyone else but Paul wasn't in the top finishers.
In the second race, Doug fouled Paul, tipped, was able to get the boat up without using Marshall's method, did a 720 and went from last place to finishing first. Jim Young was second. Don't know about Paul but I don't think he was in the top finishers.
Sounds like it's a bit of a battle between Doug and Jim and Doug's head seems to be firmly inserted up his backside. This should be interesting. I think he's wearing his hat cam. I hope he's getting footage of all of this.
Stay tuned ...
Update 1: They got in two more races after lunch and are done for the day. Jim Young punched out by about 100yards feet in the 3rd race and sailed a beautiful race; however, Doug caught a shift and got Jim on the finish line at the last mark with buoy room. In the 4th race, the wind was super light and Doug finished first with Jim in third. A guess at the standings is Doug, Jim, Stu, and Rob. Don't know Stu and Rob but think they might be locals.
As for Paul, when asked how his day was, he said he didn't want to talk about it ... ever. Despite that, they are both in good spirits and having a good time and apparently relocating to a different house this evening. Weather looks iffy for tomorrow so today might be the regatta.
