Gary was on race committee so missed a perfect (for him) light air day. |
Contrary to the forecast of light and variable, it turned out that we had enough wind to sail though there were some slow parts. Overall it was a very pleasant day and not too chilly since the wind was so light. After so many weekends of not being able to sail, mostly because it was too cold and/or windy - it was great to be out there again.
Six Butterfly sailors on the line for the first 2 races, then just 4 finished the last race. Several of us considered dropping out but we managed to stick it out and even sailed in without having to be towed.
I took some photos from my sailboat with my older camera and most of the photos are here in this blog but there are a few more in the link. I really admire people who can remember what happened in each race. Often for me, it is just a blur. I do remember Paul hitting a log which maybe cost him the first race and maybe Frank beat him by a hair. Or maybe not . . . I've asked Gary about the scores which might jog my memory.
Update on scores from Gary:
1) Frank slipped in @ finish), Paul, Jim
2) Cathy by mile, Paul, John
3) Paul, Cathy, John
Jim is improving fast. I remember being lapped for about 2 or 3 years. And John is sure getting good. Glad we gave Paul a run for his money!
Much thanks to the race committee - Gary E., Greg from the Lasers, and ?.
At this point things didn't look too promising - wind-wise. |
This might be the finish of the first race - I was pretty far back and at least by this point we did have some wind. |
This is coming into the last leg of the second race, really light air. |
Second race, Paul in the lead coming up to the finish line. |
