What a beautiful day! Happy Birthday to Tom today, still sailing on his 81st birthday. May we all be so lucky. As you can see, he hasn't aged a bit and he's still the ladies' man and we just love him.
Seems like a good time to resurrect the old "Why We Love the Butterfly" video from 5 years ago with Tom's piece at the end.
Tom, Bruce, Gary, Frank, Burton, Sandy, Bob and even Miles are all the regulars from when I started sailing Butterflys. All were out today and everything felt right with the world. Add in the new crop of regulars with Paul, Cathy, Laurie, John, the Dougs and a couple of new faces I'm still learning, including new Butterfly sailor, Nancy, all of which were also out today and the Butterfly racing was a happening place today.
That old familiar, unpredictable North wind made an appearance and the wind played peak-a-boo while gradually building to a nice little snort in the last race. Great experience as we prepare for the 2016 Single-Handed Nationals to be held at White Rock in June. We're going to be ready!
Another birthday today is Luigi, yet another guy we just adore and even though he's moved to Panama, it makes me smile to remember him and laugh out loud when I watch him in this popular video that Brad put together a few years ago. Happy Birthday Luigi! Burton, we look forward to one day sailing with your grandson who also shares this birthday as he will likely be an absolute treasure to be around.
Good times! Yeah, there was sailing. 17 boats out and it was invigorating and fun and hopefully a preview of a good sailing year to come. We just have to keep showing up and maybe the Nationals will breathe a little new life into fleet attendance. I think we even picked up a new member today.
