7-18-09 RACING

by Pam... today I got a sandwich and sat up on the hill overlooking the racecourse, and watched some of the races ... I was sitting up there and thought “What the h*ll is that person in the committee boat wearing on their head? It looks like mouseketeer ears!”
Yep! It was crazy hat day on the committee boat. We had about 10 Butterflys, 6 Lasers and 2 Sunfish out racing. The wind was fairly decent and temperatures weren’t unbearable and we were able to get in 3 good races.
There were some bozo moments with the race committee with miss-timed whistles, flags, and a general recall with confusion on which fleet starts after a general recall when you are in the middle of a rolling start sequence. I’ll be fishing out the Sailing Instructions and posting them soon and asking for help in addressing such situations.
There were also some bozo moments on the race course with the Lasers playing follow the leader on an Olympic course and using the reaching mark for the second windward part of the course which both amused and confused the Butterfly fleet. Kudos to Forest for solving the windward mark mystery.
