8-15-09 RACING

Most summers, we have several days of no wind and extreme temperatures. So far this summer we have had wind. Lots of it. Once again, on Saturday it was blowing pretty hard. Perhaps 12-15, with some gusts. The Lasers, of course, like the higher winds.
We had only 7 Butterflys on the line with 5 Lasers and Amanda in her Sunfish. Amanda has been out in all of the high winds lately, and is getting very good in that fish. Good for her.
Frank won 2 races and Sandy won one.
The committee had to keep lengthening the course to make the races last longer. The boats were getting around the course pretty fast. The wind was fairly consistent, but was a lot of work for most skippers.
As Burton come across the finish line a distant 4th in the last race, he said that while racing, he was ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that all of the boats ahead of him were going the wrong way. Sound familiar to anyone else?
All in all, a good day of racing.
