3-13-10 RACING

On Saturday, it was yet another wild and raucous day on White Rock Lake. We had winds of probably 8-20+. Unfortunately, you could get either, or both in about 2 boat lengths of travel. You all know how tricky that north wind can be.

Even though it was an absolutely beautiful day, we only had five boats on the line with Miles, Sandy, Shaun, Luigi and Tom the only ones that would go out there.

There were many scary moments, automatic tacks, struggles to keep the boat flat, going into irons and repairs at sea. Going up wind in the first race, the traveler broke on Shaun's boat, and he was sitting there in all of that wind making adjustments. He was successful and continued racing.

Although Sandy just plain sailed away from the rest of us, and won all 3 races, he had his share of horror stories, as well. Tom was 2nd in the first race with Shaun in 3rd. In the next two races, Shaun was 2nd and Tom 3rd. Catherine and Frank had duty and gave us some variety in our races with an Olympic course, a T 3 1/3 and a W 3 1/2.

It was really a lot of fun out there, but I think that after 3 races in those conditions, we were all glad to be back on the dock.
