Miles and
Maria had race duty and we had decent winds with hellishly hot temperatures. We
had about 9 Butterflys and 2 Lasers on the course and despite the heat, we got
in three races.
At lunch,
both Doug and Paul were completely laid out in the floor of the clubhouse
looking a bit geriatric. Both were complaining of stiff backs. The older men in
the room, however, were doing just fine.
Laurie was sailing
double-handed with her daughter for the first two races and Bowman also came
out for the first two races and was doing quite well. Burton was having a good
day with two bullets.
Cathy had
loaned me Sylvia to sail and I raced her for two races and Doug for one and she
did quite well with a 1, 2, 3 for the day. One guess who got the first. She's a
quick, clean, slick bottomed boat. Thanks Cathy!
Doug and I
traded off on his Laser and were joined but another Doug from WRBC also sailing
a Laser. At one point, new Doug was perfectly positioned behind me holding
Bruce and Gary back. We decided that the practice of having the Lasers starting
behind Butterflys puts them right where we don't want them towards the finish.
Starting early and getting them out of the way seems to be the better option.
We did have
one capsize for the day which, in hindsight, seemed like a smart move as the
skipper was looking quite comfortable at the end of the day while the rest of
us were overheating.
No pics, nothing too exciting on the race course …
just a pleasant day of sailing.
