ALL THINGS BUTTERFLY

Have you ever taken the time to visit the National Butterfly Association website (www.butterflyer.org)? It’s loaded with interesting information.
Did you know that the first Single-Handed Nationals were held in 1970? That makes this year the 40th anniversary. In the past 40 years, 12 of the national champions were from White Rock Lake, along with 4 junior national champions and 1 female national champion.
Today, there are 13 fleets registered with the NBA in the US. Eight of them are from Michigan, 2 are from Wisconsin, and 1 each from Missouri, Colorado and Texas. I took the time to visit several of the sister fleets’ websites. There are tons of juniors and plenty of women sailing the Butterfly. I thought White Rock Boat Club was an old club but we’re newcomers compared to some of the clubs that started back in the 1800s. One club in Michigan has 12 fleet boats available for use.
Have you visited the manufacturer’s website (www.windwardboatworks.com)? Lots of interesting information there as well. How many of you have a copy of the Butterfly Owner’s Manual? It’s on their website.
I added a section in the right margin for “All Things Butterfly” and linked to several interesting items. If you get the time, hang out on the websites and look around a little. I was pleasantly surprised.
