A nice cloudy grey day to sail. Paul with boat speed to burn. Photo by James. |
We enjoyed a grey day with mild temps of about 48 degrees but with the moisture it seemed chillier to me. The
wind blew just about perfect from the SE, 6-11 mph and it doesn't get much better
than that. We hurried against the threat of impending
rain to get in all three races but didn't quite make it with a light gentle rain falling midway through the last race.
John and James set a great Olympic course and never had to adjust it though as we set off from the boat club it seemed like the wind was shifting back and forth from E to SE.
Seven boats on the line shows that word must be getting out that the end of January offers great sailing. It was fantastic to see Tom though neither of us made it through all the races. That left five dedicated sailors finishing all three.
John made some great comments: "Paul took all three races today, but some of the best
finishes came between Cathy and Frank in race one, and Frank and Sandy in race
three. Frank edged out Sandy by about 2 feet! They were both on
a port tack side by side, but Frank just got it. We were straining in the
committee boat to keep a visual line between the flag and the mark, and Frank
held Sandy off in what was truly a photo finish.
Shame I couldn't capture it on film."

T
hanks to John and James for being there and providing the photos and notes! It looked chillier on the committee
boat. Especially appreciate James taking
time out after the latest addition to his family. Congratulations James!
