2010 WRANGLE RESULTS

So it’s like this. I was at the Fort Worth Boat Club for their annual regatta and my roving reporter was at White Rock Boat Club for the Wrangle. However, and I’m still trying to get the visual on this one, it seems that Tom somehow found himself in the middle of a Larry, Curly and Mo skit. He helped rig a few boats and as he was bent over rigging his own, a visiting, healthy weighted skipper went to board a Butterfly by stepping on the bow of the boat ... the top of his mast came down and gave Tom a couple of spankings. Ouch! In goes the guy and down goes Tom. I wish we had a doc cam at White Rock Boat Club. That had to be a sight. Everyone was ok but sitting on a boat all day wasn’t in the cards for Tom.
I understand Amber was on the docks. Not sailing but doing well after shocking and scaring us all a couple of weeks ago. We’re glad you’re back up and around. Don’t do that again.
Now, for the sailing … I’m going to have to wing it. Sandy has been on fire lately. Last year he was our Butterflyer of the Year and this year he’s gone and won the Wrangle. Quite handily, I would imagine. Congratulations Sandy! Frank and Burton took second and third, and Bruce coming in fourth is, I’m sure, anxiously awaiting his new boat and then, guys, it’s on!
Looks like we had a very good turnout with most of the usual suspects and a few new faces. I’m guessing the wind was like it was in Fort Worth … decent, good, then better and the temperatures were at or near triple digits. Personally, I wasn’t acclimated yet, wind or not. Sunday was windless and stifling hot. I understand no one left the docks at White Rock. We weren’t so lucky in Fort Worth.
Over in the Laser fleet, Stephen Nelson, who came over and won the Butterfly Wrangle last year, was back to test the Lasers. He took second to J. Roy. Stephen probably doesn’t know it but he was up against world class competition. Roy was Doug’s training partner the year he won his first Worlds. When Doug left to go compete, he knew Roy was the better sailor and when Jacques wished him well, he was pretty sure Doug was going to get his clock cleaned. Turns out, Roy had trained Doug quite well. Congratulations Roy and Stephen!
