2-27-2010 RACING

While on the dock on Saturday, we all wondered if there would be enough wind for racing. It was a bit of a struggle to get to the starting line. Bowman and Miles had to change the course before the start, as the wind switched from southerly to westerly. During the 1st race, it shifted to NW, and started to pick up.

It became wild out there. The wind probably never got over 10-12, but it came from everywhere at once. You didn't dare hike out. That boat would be coming back at you in a hurry. There was a lot of frantic activity on those boats.

Robert was a new racer with us, and used the fleet boat. He did well in the first race, but the winds in the 2nd race caused him to take a little swim. While the committee was getting him up, Bowman ended up in the lake, as well. She is tough. She stayed out there the rest of the day in her wet clothes.

Sandy won the first race, with Bruce 2nd and Tom 3rd. In the second race Bruce won, with Sandy 2nd and Tom edging out Amber for 3rd. Only 4 boats stayed out for the 3rd race. Sandy won, Bruce second and Tom 3rd, with Jim 4th.

Including Dave and Megan with the above skippers, we had 8 boats on the line at the beginning.

The temperature was about 60-65, however, and that is sure a pleasant change from what we have been having.

It was a fun day on the lake.
